Job Description:

CohesionForce is actively seeking candidates for an AI Research Assistant / IT Assistant to become part of our team in Huntsville, AL.  CohesionForce is a small software engineering company supporting high-visibility customers in the Missile Defense community.  We are heavily involved in Artificial Intelligence and modern software development practices, and we are expanding our internal AI research capability to support rapid innovation and mission-focused solutions.

The position will support two critical company needs:

1.  Continuing internal AI research and experimentation while a primary AI expert is dedicated to supporting projects and tasks at our customer site.

2.  Assisting with IT and CMMC-related efforts such as improving internal cybersecurity practices and supporting the rewrite and organization of documentation and policies required for compliance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in React, Python, and DevOps, and also be comfortable assisting with IT/cybersecurity tasks, documentation, and internal process improvements.  This candidate will work closely with technical leadership and will be expected to be a self-starter, attentive to details, and able to prioritize and adjust to accomplish company objectives with limited oversight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Essential Functions:
– Assist with internal AI research, prototyping, experrimentation, and rapid capability exploration to help the company stay current in a fast-changing AI environment.
– Develop proof-of-concept applications and internal tools supporting AI-related workflows and demonstrations.
– Support development of lightweight AI-enabled applications using modern web frameworks and Python-based back-end services.
– Document research findings and implementation notes clearly for reuese and internal technicl growth.
– Collaborate with technical leadership to identify emerginng AI opportunities relevant to customer challenges.

Software Development/Engineering Support:
– Develop and maintain internal applications using React for user interfaces.
– Develop suporting Python services, scripts, automation, or APIs that enable AI research and internal business needs.
– Support DevOps practices including automation, build pipelines, containerization, and deployment best practices.
– Participate in Agile planning and execution, supporting task tracking, prioritization, and incrementa delivery.

IT/Cybersecurity/CMMC Support:
– Assist internal IT leadership with cybersecurity process improvement and internal readiness activities.
– Support creation, rewrite, and organization of CMMC documentation, policies, procedures, and supporting artifacts.
– Help maintain internal systems/tools used to manage documentation, version control, and process compliance.
– Provide backup support for IT troubleshooting or internal technical needs when required.
                  Basic Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, science, cybersecurity, IT, or technology-related field degree with 1-5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field with less than 1 years of experience. (Equivalent experience will be considered.)
– Experience with React development (front-end web applications).
– Experience with Python development (scripting, automation, APIs, or tooling).
– Experience with DevOps fundamentals, such as:
– CI/CD pipelines
– Git-based workflows
– Linux/Unix command line
– Containerization (Docker) or similar technolgies.
– Strong written communication skills (ability to help produce technical documentation and policy content).
– Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate in a small, fast-moving team environment.
–  Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results within limited oversight.
– Excellent written and verbal communiation skills.
–  Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the capability to obtain a Secret security clearance.

                  Preferred Qualifications:

– Experience using Git-based tools such as Github or Gitlab (including issue tracking and pull request workflows).
– Familiarity with cloud platforms and moden deployment practices (AWS, Azure, or similar).
– Familiarity with infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
– Experience with CMMC, NIST 800-171, or cybersecurity compliance documenation.
– Experience creating internal documenation, training materials, or repeatable procedures.
– Strong interest in AI trends, tooling, and applied research (LLMs, model evaluation, automation, AI-enhanced applications).
